stop wearing the same colour combos

if i see one more beige outfit with white sneakers i'm actually going to lose it.

i get it. neutrals are easy. they match everything. they're "timeless." whateverrrrrr. but there are SO many colour combinations that people just forgot existed. somewhere along the way everyone collectively decided black goes with white, blue goes with denim (and denim is neutral??), and that's the end of the conversation.

wrong!!!! i object!!!!!!

my current obsession is butter yellow with dark brown. i don't know who discovered it first, but thank you. it looks like you have your life together even if you're wearing the same jeans you've had since grade 11.

powder blue with burgundy? literally gorgeous. i don't make the rules.

olive green and dusty pink is another one. people hear pink and immediately think hot pink barbie. no. i'm talking about the kind of pink that amazon pillows come in. it's perfect with olive.

and don't even get me started on plum and green. every time i see someone wearing it i'm like... so you've been gatekeeping this? genius as pie.

the biggest mistake people make is thinking every colour has to be repeated five times. it doesn't. if you're wearing a burgundy sweater, your shoes do not also need to be burgundy. your bag doesn't need to match either. in fact, i'd rather it didn't. the best outfits usually have one colour doing all the talking while another one quietly backs it up. that's why a tiny butter yellow bag with an otherwise brown outfit works. or a pale blue cardigan over dark red. and the paired colour doesn't have to be black or white, btw.

also, fabric changes everything.

burgundy satin is a completely different person than burgundy knit. the same colour can feel rich, sporty, vintage, or expensive depending on what it's made of.

basically... stop asking if colours "go together" they're colours. they're not getting married??

wear the weird combination. nine times out of ten it'll look cooler than another black tank top with light wash jeans. no diss on that look though.
